Profile: The complexities of the oceans have always intrigued and perplexed Theekshitha. This curiosity shaped her school years and guided her higher education. She went on to complete her bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Botany, and Geography. Following this, her journey led her to ATREE, where she pursued a master’s in Environmental Studies (Conservation Practice). Her master’s program gave her valuable insights into the importance and irreplaceability of local and Indigenous communities in sustaining and advancing conservation efforts.

In her current role at Dakshin Foundation, Theekshitha hopes to learn more about the interconnected relationships between people and the ocean, while gaining a deeper understanding of the current state of the sustainable fisheries sector in India. She will be exploring the inner workings of reduction fisheries, along with a range of related themes, on the coast of Tamil Nadu.
