Profile: Tejaswi’s passion for the marine environment began during his childhood near Visakhapatnam beach, where he often spotted dolphins. This fascination grew during his time at Rishi Valley School and later during his Master’s studies, where he researched sacred groves in Tamil Nadu and studied the impact of human activities on the environment. Tejaswi’s professional journey began with an internship at the Wildlife Institute of India, where he explored the effects of noise pollution on Gangetic river dolphins. He later worked on a project focusing on shark trade dynamics along India’s east coast. After completing a PADI Rescue Diver certification in the Andamans, Tejaswi returned to the Wildlife Institute to contribute to a conservation action plan for rhinoceroses and barasinghas. He then returned to his passion by working on Mobulidae in Vizag.
Currently, Tejaswi is working with the Marine Flagships Programme, focusing on monitoring elasmobranch populations along India’s East Coast and studying pollutants in these species. His long-term goal is to foster coexistence within marine ecosystems and strengthen the conservation of marine megafauna. When not in the field, Tejaswi enjoys diving, reading, cooking, and exploring diverse cultures through travel and food.
