Magata joined the turtle monitoring project in 2015. Since then, he has been involved in beach mapping, hatchery construction and maintenance, arribada census, and occasional night patrolling. Recently, he has been part of the SeaChange program, with his work primarily focused on raising awareness at the community level, voicing their grievances, and liaising with block, panchayat, and district levels to facilitate access to various rights and entitlements. He has played a major role in mapping coastal commons and raising awareness about them in other villages. In his spare time, he enjoys writing Odia songs, singing, playing badminton, and teaching children. He speaks Telugu, Hindi, English, and Odia.
