Profile: With nearly a decade of experience in social and environmental justice, Himshi’s work lies at the intersection of grassroots movements, community rights, policy advocacy, and research. As a former National Coordinator at the Secretariat of the National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM), she played a key role in networking, coordination, and alliance-building among social and environmental movements across India. She was actively involved in the housing rights struggle in Delhi, particularly in Kathputli Colony -Delhi’s first Public-Private Partnership-based in-situ rehabilitation project – as well as in the Narmada Bachao Andolan during the 2017 mass submergence of project-affected villages in Madhya Pradesh.
She spent five years working with Himdhara Environment Research & Action Collective in Himachal Pradesh with tribal and marginalized communities, pastoralists, women, and youth on the implementation of the Forest Rights Act. Through research, she has highlighted the rising issue of climate-induced disasters, the critical role of women in forest conservation practices and the disconnect between adaptation and conservation efforts and community rights.
Currently, at Dakshin Foundation, her work focuses on supporting governance-related interventions in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, aiming to improve governance, leadership, and representation practices across the system while fostering partnerships through stakeholder engagement.
Beyond her professional pursuits, she has a keen interest in sports. A former national-level basketball player, she is also an advanced open-water diver.
