Profile: Guruprasad is a Senior Programme Associate at the Dakshin Foundation, working across coastal landscapes in Tamil Nadu and Odisha to support the Community Resource and Governance team through programme coordination, implementation and progress tracking. His work brings together ecological research and community engagement to strengthen participatory governance and the sustainable management of natural resources.
Before joining Dakshin, he worked as an Education Officer at Mysuru Zoo. He also worked closely with coastal and forest-dependent communities in protected areas in Karnataka and Kerala on livelihood support, biodiversity monitoring, beach clean-up initiatives, sea turtle conservation and CSR-supported environmental programmes. He played a key role in the documentation and coordination process that led to the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for the Honnavar betel leaf, contributing to the formal recognition of its cultural heritage and livelihood significance.
Guruprasad is currently awaiting the award of his Ph.D. in Environmental Science and is a university rank holder with multiple academic recognitions. His research focuses on water quality dynamics, estuarine biodiversity and bivalve ecology in free-flowing and dam-regulated river systems. With strong field experience, scientific communication skills and stakeholder coordination abilities, he brings a grounded and interdisciplinary perspective to Dakshin’s on-ground initiatives.
