Profile: Growing up amid the unique ecosystems of the Andaman Islands, Agnesia is passionate about biodiversity conservation and climate action. With a Master’s degree in Botany, her work combines research and community engagement. Her dissertation focused on nursery plant species in the Andaman Islands, and she has contributed to spider research and conducted field surveys in agricultural areas of South Andaman. She also served as a teaching assistant in the “Local Voices in Conservation” programme, a summer school that helps young islanders learn about conservation.

As a National Youth Climate Champion (NYCC, supported by YuWaah and UNICEF), Agnesia represents the Andaman Islands nationally, fostering climate action. As a Climate Champion, she is exploring and documenting the impact of climate change on fishing communities. Through her work at Dakshin, Agnesia strives to empower local communities and youth, highlighting the importance of their voices in addressing the environmental challenges faced by the Andaman Islands.
